Sound of Teejuana is a collaborative project between, Tom Caruana (Beats and a bit of rhyming) and Teej (Rhymes). They had previously worked together on albums such as Caruana’s Brick’a’Brack, The Boiler Room Collective LP and Teej’s Step In My Adventure EP. The two met at University during the earlier part of the decade and shared a smokey, grimey student house, where no one ever did the washing up but lots of amazing Hip-Hop was made.
After finishing Uni, Tom moved to Brighton and Teej would often come to visit clutching his rhyme pad and a bucket and spade. The Sound of Teejuana is the result of those visits. The result of long nights, early mornings, scrawled chains of thought and obscure musical alchemy.
Lyrically quite a few different bases are touched. From the festivals and messy nights of ‘Glastonbury’ and ‘Another Typical Weekend’, to the unfortunate view of females in western religion: ‘The Divinity of Femininity’. With just enough room for some stuff about trapdoors and politics inbetween. Also featuring the insane tea-swilling Victorian ringmaster Proffesor Elemental and the Orwellian anarchist witch doctor Dizraeli.
Musically its the beautiful stew that Caruana fans have come to know and love. Eccentric, grooving, dusty, soulful platters of delight that have made him a cult UK beatsmith to those in the know. This is the Sound of Teejuana.

Black Gold. I’d always wanted to dig a little deeper into Hendrix’s musical catalogue, but I never knew exactly how much he recorded in the last few years of his life! This album was the perfect excuse to get lost in the jams, outtakes and demos. After using the the main Wu-Tang acapellas on the Beatles album I had to dig a little deeper for the raps, and got a couple of exclusives too from Gab Gotcha & Young Dirty Bastard

Professor Elemental
Did You Know?
Professor Elemental was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. It was removed by doctors soon afterwards and remains in the British Museum of the Unpleasant to this very day. His father was a victim of a severe grinding accident whilst working on the creation of a new grinding machine, leaving baby Elemental to be raised under the watchful eye of his overprotective mother.
Fed on a diet of pureed swan and old-fashioned British madness, he soon grew into one of the least respected and most ridiculed Professors to ever be turned away from every London society (including the Cub Scouts and the WI). Undeterred, he continues to work tirelessly on inventions that are both unwanted and unwelcome in polite society with the aid of his trusty butler Pugh and his Augmented Oran tang Geoffrey. He enjoys dissection, gin and shrieking with maniacal giggles at inopportune moments.

Tom Caruana
Tom Caruana has many strings to his bow, but he doesn’t play the violin. He does play drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and specialises in music production. His experience ranges from working with rappers, singers and musicians in studio and live environments, to reworking classic acapellas in a series of renound remix albums. His work has caught the attention of The Chicagoist, The New York Times, The Guardian and Edgar Wright.
His production styles vary massively: jazz & humour (Professor Elemental), folk infused hip-hop (Bombadeal), instrumental jazz-breaks (Klondike Kids) and classic mashup material (Wu Tang vs The Beatles / Jimi Hendrix).
He started out by making music in his parent’s basement, making tons of odd songs and putting them onto one off cassettes. Then he moved to London and started hip hop supergroup The Boiler Room Collective. Although this wasn’t actually a real group, the following were regulars in the studio: Wordsmith, Genesis Elijah, Dr Syntax, Ahmos, Red Master & Teej. At around the same time Tom had started The Menagerie with Elemental, Nick Maxwell & Dr Syntax.
Tom plays in funk/hip hop group Son Of Sam with John Sam, Joe Sam & Dutch Courage. Tom & Dutch Courage have their own instrumental based project called Klondike Kids.
As well as providing production on individual tracks for a wide range of artists, Tom has produced complete albums for Wordsmith, Professor Elemental, Dr Syntax, Dizraeli & Teej.
“Caruana is a producer of considerable imagination, skill and potential”. (The Guardian newspaper)
